Hna Winstanleys Letters....

December 3, 2007.....
IN MY SHORT THREE WEEKS of being in the mission field I have been blessed with the experiences I had. I never imagined that missionary life would be full of adventures at least not the kind I have been fortunate to experience. I figure the best way to share these experience with all of you is to invite you to take a peek at my journal. So here it goes....

WEEK #1: (November 16, 2007)
... ONE MORE THING before I forget, I ate pigs head tacos (little balls of fatty pigs head with some pig hair still in it). As you can imagine it was not tasty. I kept a prayer in my heart the whole time we were teaching investigators from Juajaca, Mexico (apparently people from Juajaca eat weird things). I did not want them to get offended so I ate as much as I could. I am so scared of what food is to come, but as the scriptures say with God all things are possible.

WEEK #2: (November 23, 2007)
.... MIRACLES DO HAPPEN and I know that Heavenly Father protects his missionaries as long as we are obedient. I was on the bike today and came to a four-way-stop. Since I had arrived first and had the right of way I pedaled my way across. I quickly realized after I was halfway across that the car on the other lane had kept going and was coming towards me. I pedaled faster and the car sped of and hit my back wheel. At this time I hear Hna Barnes scream...I had been hit by a car and my bike had kept going. Not a fall, not a scratch...I felt God's protection and was amazed that after being hit I did not fall. I know that Heavenly Father is watching over us. This is his work and I am grateful to be a part of it!

WEEK #3 (November 27, 2007)
....AFTER A WONDERFUL LESSON Sister Sperry (a member) drove us and her friend (an investigator) home. On our way we were stopped by the cops. The cop asked Sister Sperry "where are you going"?..."where have you been"? The officer took Sister Sperry and our investigators ID's and after some time they asked Sister Sperry to raise her hands, to get out of the car slowly and to walk backwards with her hands up. Eventually they asked all of us to do the same. This was somewhat scary since they were pointing their guns at us. As I was being handcuffed I told the officer that I needed to be with my companion. I explained that we were missionaries and had to follow some rules. He seemed to understand...There were several police officers searching Sister Sperry's car. Eventually they realized they had the wrong people. They removed our handcuffs and apologized. It just so happened that a car similar to Sister Sperry's van and a man with a pony tail was involved in a shooting. Our investigator happened to have a pony tail so we were a good suspect. The cops apologized and felt bad after finding out they had handcuffed sister missionaries! I guess you can say the Hermanas Winstanley and Barnes were arrested today. Even though I was scared I was able to feel Gods protection for his missionaries...
